Should Bloggers Worry About Artificial Intelligence?

A common theme I have been witnessing among blogging communities online is disillusionment among bloggers about the advent of artificial intelligence. The worry is around the market being inundated with loads and loads of content produced by people using artificial intelligence (AI).

This concern is a valid one. At the end of the day, these AI platforms can produce enormous amounts of content within a short period. No human on earth would be able to produce as much content as quickly as ChatGPT can. There is nothing stopping people from using it, or other AI models, from creating tens or even hundreds of blog posts each day and uploading them onto the internet.

Even various major media outlets have outlined that they would begin using artificial intelligence in their content production processes as well. For example, the US Newspaper conglomerate Gannett announced it would be adding AI-generated summaries to the top of its articles, according to the Verge.

The reality is that artificial intelligence is not going away. Quite the contrary, virtually every major company has been announcing different ways in which they are planning to incorporate AI into their businesses. Like Google, who recently announced that they would be further incorporating generative AI, into Google Search.

Artificial intelligence has gone from this theoretical concept that people like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg spoke about, to becoming part and parcel of everyday life, since the rolling out of ChatGPT.

AI articles should not be of concern

One thing AI does not have, however, is any real authenticity in its writing. It is all very robotic and basic in its writing, which is why it would never really be a major threat to human writers. Most people aren’t interested in reading the same kinds of formulaic articles that AI platforms churn out every day.

When I read articles from blogs and other media, my interest is in understanding the experiences felt by the writers. My interest is in how they make use of communication skills to publish content that is stimulating and engaging to read. Artificial intelligence cannot create content in such a manner, because it is not a human. It does not experience this world in the same manner as we do.

At its core, AI models like ChatGPT, are just language learning models that just predict what the next word within a sentence should be. For that reason, they will never compete with the original work of a good writer.

People have always taken shortcuts

Another important factor to consider when talking about people using AI to write their articles is that there have always been people who have been willing to take shortcuts to get ahead. There will always be people who are just looking for the easiest way to achieve anything.

Before AI, there was nothing stopping people from hiring someone from lower-income countries on sites like Fiverr and paying them pennies on the dollar to produce content for them. Likewise, as long as there has been content out there, there have been people who engage in plagiarism of their people’s content and publish them as their own.

People who are more interested in using quicker methods to move ahead will always be there. The only difference is that now with artificial intelligence, it has become easier for them the churn out even more disingenuous content and put it out into the world.

The best thing that bloggers can do is create authentic high-quality content. That is what most people are attracted to and that is what would bring people success in this field.
